Dances & Music

Banzai on Broadway:
Do you ever imagine yourself performing on a Broadway stage? Here's your chance to show everyone what you've got. Banzai presents our rendition of musical theater, Anime-style. If you hear the stage calling your name, Banzai needs you to perform your favorite musical numbers in cosplay! The music can be from your favorite musical, Broadway play, anime, game, or just a song that you think fits your characters or group. If you don't want to perform, come and join our hosts for a day of live theater!

For more info on how to submit your entry, please see the Events > Rules & Try-Out Info page.

PSY - Gangnam Style (강남스타일) M/V - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0

A total of ten teams will compete for the best synched rendition of Gangnam Style. Teams can have a max of 8 people for safety considerations. We'll be taking applications for up to 5 teams online, and the remaining 5 teams will be able to sign up at the convention itself. If you're interested, please email events@animebanzai.org with "Gangnam Style Competition" in the subject line starting on Wednesday, September 5th at 6PM. This will be taking place in Main Events, so study up on the dance, practice your feet bloody, and may the best Synch win!

We will be having at-con sign-ups on Friday from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM in the Zephyr Room.

Some fans have even started up a Facebook group if you'd like to learn the dance and practice! Go here for more details:

Masquerade Ball Formal Dance "Moonlight Destiny":
This year's theme is Moonlight Destiny and will be a traditional ball. No matter your look - modern, chic, classy, slick, or sassy you don't want to miss the chance to dress to the nines and have some fun. Remember this is a formal dance so please dress accordingly!

For men (or male cosplay):

  • Slacks: (No jeans, skater pants, etc. Must be dress pants)
  • Shirts should be dress shirts or tuxedo shirts. (No polo or t-shirts)
  • Military dress is also ok.

For woman (or female cosplay):

  • Skirts, dress, or for tomboy-ish female characters, please keep to the same standards as male cosplay requirements. (ex. Sailor Uranus might be more likely to wear a tuxedo shirt and pants than a dress, which is ok! Same goes for guys, if you wanna wear dresses, make sure they adhere to the dress code!)
  • Skirt/dress length should be down to your fingertips or longer. For dresses or skirt with side-slits, the slit should go no higher than where your wrist naturally falls at your side.
